Product Description
Canine â??tricksâ? are showy extensions of a dogâ??s natural behavior. Training dogs to perform tricks enhances the bond between pet and owner and adds to playtime fun.
This updated book shows dog owners in words and pictures how to train their pet to perform both simple and complicated tricks. After reviewing four basic commandsâ??sit, down, stand, and stayâ??the book instructs on progressing to behaviors such as jump through a hoop, weave through legs, balance a biscuit, and many others. The authors present step-by-step instructions for dozens of fun tricks, and offer tips and suggestions to help readers work through problems. Successful training can lead to enhanced pet therapy visits, success in talent competitions, and perhaps even a part in a local stage production. The dog-and-handler team that progresses through all of this bookâ??s behaviors will develop talents that could lead to public performance. But even dog owners who arenâ??t interesting in progressing to that level can learn much from the ideas and instruction presented in this book. This new edition presents all-new photos plus a full chapter of new tricksâ??more opportunities than ever for dogs and handlers to have fun together.

I really enjoy using this book to train my dog. He already knows the basic commands including shake, spin, and roll over. The format of this book is clear and concise and the illustrations/pictures are excellent guides to training your dog the new trick. Although most of the tricks are quite rudimentary and you will find them taught in most other books, I just like the crisp editing of this particular one.

I am a dog trainer, and my clients love this book, have had two copies liberated. The pictures explaining the steps are wonderful. Great book, will buy another copy for clients. (This is a tricks only book, it is not about dog training classic commands, or raising a puppy or anything but tricks, other reviewers seem to miss that point.)If you can teach all 25 tricks, then you are a great trainer and your dog is having a lot of fun.

its fun to give my clients the book and see what they choose to train,, I get surprized all of the time.

a timeless classic of a book, buy a copy.

It has so few tricks, I mean, 25?! Any other training book comes with so much more for around the same price! The Idiot’s guide to Dog tricks has much more interesting, easy to learn tricks. My Smart Puppy is a great read too.
